How much should a used tire cost?
It depends on the size and how much tread is left. A used tire with lots of tread costs more than one that’s getting low, and both cost much less than new. Our price check shows the fair range for your exact size and tread, based on current Houston-area prices.
How do you grade a tire from a photo?
Take a close, sharp photo of the tread in good light. We estimate the tread depth and look for problems like uneven wear, cracking, cords showing, bulges or plugs. A photo can’t measure depth exactly, so check with a tread gauge or the penny test too.
Is it worth buying used tires?
A good used tire with plenty of tread, no damage and a recent DOT date can save you a lot. Skip any tire with cords showing, bulges, cracked rubber, a plug near the sidewall, or one more than about 6 years old.
